Clean Caspian, a startup backed by investment from Alkagesta, has completed the first phase of its development and is moving into further research on chemical technologies for responding to marine oil spills, according to Alkagesta Media. The company-linked outlet announced the milestone in a report summarising coverage of the initiative by international science, energy and industry publications.
The initial phase identified two technologies, named Oil-Collecting Reagent 1 and Flocculant-Coagulant 1. Alkagesta Media said The European had reported on the chemicals as tools designed to contain and disperse oil spills in marine ecosystems. Its account of that coverage emphasised the environmental damage associated with spills and the potential for the formulations to be used against pollution in real-world conditions. The source did not provide performance measurements for either technology.
The next development stage will concentrate on further optimisation of both formulations, alongside additional testing under new environmental conditions. Clean Caspian also intends to advance the patent application process during Phase II, Alkagesta Media said. Those activities are the stated next steps for the project; the report did not give a timetable for completing them or for bringing the technologies to market.
Commercial ambitions were another feature of the press coverage cited by Alkagesta Media. It said Science World Report had presented the initiative as a practical response to the industry's continuing responsibility for oil-spill pollution. In that context, the publication cited annual global environmental damage from oil spills of nearly $3 billion, according to Alkagesta Media's summary.
Alkagesta Media also said Nefterynok had covered the development milestone alongside Alkagesta's receipt of the EcoVadis Committed Badge, linking both to the company's broader environmental, social and governance commitments. Its round-up additionally listed coverage from Azerbaycan Muellimleri and Ship.Energy, describing the international reporting as evidence of growing interest in Clean Caspian's work.
